Frequently Asked Questions

What does the CCC-SLP stand for and why is it important?

CCC-SLP stands for Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology, a nationally recognized professional credential from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). It’s the premier certification for speech therapists who have completed at least a master’s program in speech-language pathology.

Speech pathologists with a CCC-SLP have voluntarily met rigorous professional and academic standards that are usually above the minimum requirements to achieve state licensure. The certification demonstrates that a speech pathologist can provide high-quality clinical services to patients; plus, their drive to engage in ongoing professional development to maintain certification.

What is a Gestalt Language Learner/ Processor?

Is your child able to remember complete movies or phrases? Do they tend to speak with modulation but you find it hard to comprehend what they're saying? Are they imitating everything they hear? Gestalt Language Processing, a method of language acquisition where children learn language as scripts or entire phrases, is common among children. They typically start by learning complete phrases before progressing to individual words. This approach to language acquisition is frequently observed in children with autism, with around 75 - 90% of them adopting this method.

What if my child already receives speech services at school?

Collaborating with your school team is something I always look forward to in order to guarantee that the skills we are targeting are being addressed consistently. However, there may be instances where the school overlooks certain areas where a child is struggling if the delay doesn't meet their criteria for receiving assistance. By opting for private speech therapy services, I have the liberty to address all areas of concern and align our objectives and treatment plan with your specific worries and your child's needs.
